Hello there! My semester is finally over after what seems like YEARS of stress and all-nighters. Summer break is upon us, and even though it's not going to be much of a break for me, I am beyond excited for this change of pace and focus. For today's blog post, I would like to shine the spotlight on some of my American Pageant sisters and what they have done recently. I am so beyond proud of these titleholders and all that they have accomplished!
First, I would like to say congratulations to our recent high school graduates and soon-to-be graduates: Carrington Curphy (Miss Teen of Iowa), Tamera Jones (Miss Teen of Mississippi), Michaela Scott (Miss Teen of Missouri), Elayna Hixon (Miss Teen of Wyoming), Kaitlyn Hyun (Miss Teen of Virginia), and Leah Xiao (Miss Teen of New York)! Wow, I can't believe it has already been a year since I was in their shoes and was recieving my high school diploma. Carrington was not only Valedictorian of her graduating class, but she also took home a plethora of other awards like Governor's Award and the Times Republican "Leader of Tomorrow" award. She will be attending St. Ambrose University to major in Nursing with plans to go to graduate school to eventually become a nurse practitioner! Tamera will graduate in the top 5% of her class and has recieved over $60,000 in scholarships. After graduating, she plans to attend Tougaloo College of Jackson, Mississippi to major in biology! Micheala graduated a few days ago as Salutatorian. She will be attending Baylor University (she's joining the darkside and joining me in TEXAS!) and studying international relations and Spanish! Elayna will be graduating this Friday and is one of eight individuals in Wyoming to receive a scholarship awarded by the Wyoming National Guard. She plans to be in the Wyoming Army National Guard and the Army ROTC at the Univerity of Wyoming next year simultaneously! Kaitlyn will be graduating in June and is a recipient of the Fairfax Community Spirit Scholarship. She plans to attend the University of Virginia! Leah, my lovely first-runner up for MTOA, is also graduating this year and will be attending Yale University in the fall! Congrats, girls! Words cannot express how proud I am of each and every one of you.
Next, I want to congratulate Shelby Bellah (Miss Teen of Kentucky) for being selected to serve as a Hutson School of Agriculture 2017- 2018 Agricultural Ambassador! She is also going to be a Kentucky Farm Bureau Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders (IFAL) counselor for the summer. Congratulations, girl! That is amazing. Fun fact: Shelby and I go wayyyy back to our Young Miss Days! She was Young Miss of Texas 2010, and I was her successor as Young Miss of Texas 2011!
Kara Eggink (Miss Teen of California) recently attended the Biola Media Conference, which is the nation's largest media conference for Christians in the entertainment industry! She heard from executives from the CW Network, Disney animators, and writers of the show, "Jane the Virgin." She hopes to work in the business side of entertainment someday!
It's obvious that we have an amazing group of state titleholders here at American Pageants! These girls inspire me everyday to be the best version of myself so that I can represent them well. They are truly changing the world and forging new paths. I really enjoyed catching up with them to write this blog post, and I cannot wait to continue following their journeys to see what else they will accomplish! Thank you so much, girls, for being my role models and inspiration. I love y'all.
